Description

Chapel House is a timber-framed house dating from the 16th to 17th century. It was refronted in the 19th century using grey gault brick and features corner pilasters. The building has two storeys and a three-window range on both the west and south fronts, with double-hung sash windows that lack glazing bars. The west front includes three-light outer windows and a single light center window with a semi-circular headed upper sash, all with reconstructed stone surrounds and cornices supported by console brackets. A central four-panel door, featuring round-headed upper panels and a semi-circular fanlight, is framed by a reconstructed stone doorcase with panelled pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The south front has a canted bay at the west end on the ground storey. The rear of the house is timber-framed and plastered, showcasing an 18th-century eight-panel door with a shouldered architrave and a dentilled cornice on console brackets. The roof is tiled with old tiles, hipped at the south end, and has overhanging eaves on shaped brackets. There are three original chimney stacks, each with four grouped octagonal shafts with moulded caps on a square base, while others have two octagonal shafts that have been restored or rebuilt. To the north of Chapel House are the Maltings and Granary, associated with Little St Marys.
