Description

Kings Cottage, together with Little St Marys Cottage, Archway Cottage, and Oriole Cottage, is a timber-framed and plastered house dating from the 16th to 17th centuries. It may incorporate an earlier structure. The house has cross wings at its north and south ends. The south wing was refronted in the 20th century, and the north wing has a 19th-century former shop window bay on the ground floor. It has two storeys and a 1:2:2 window arrangement, with mainly 18th-century double-hung sash windows, featuring glazing bars. 20th-century casement windows are present in the south wing. A Tudor arched passage, displaying exposed timber framing, is located at the south end of the main block. The roofs are tiled, with a moulded wooden eaves cornice to the main block and a central square chimney stack on the south cross wing. The building is of group value.
