Description

The Old Chequers is a timber-framed and plastered building dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, originally comprising two houses. It has undergone considerable restoration. The building is two storeys high. The north block features a jettied upper storey supported by a moulded bressumer. This section has a four-window front with casements featuring leaded lights. The ground storey of the north block now has large, modern mullioned and transomed windows. A carriage way is located at the north end. The roof is tiled, displaying varied eaves and ridge levels. The south block incorporates a 17th-century chimney stack with four diagonal shafts, the two outer shafts being hexagonal. The interior reveals exposed beams and open fireplaces.
