Description
Shimpling Hall is a 15th to 16th century timber-framed and plastered house located approximately 34 yards west of the Church of St George. The house features cross wings at the north-west and south-east ends, with the earliest date suggested by Dickenson being 1475. It was renovated in the 20th century and stands two storeys tall. The upper storey of the cross wings is jettied, and the building has a window arrangement of 1:3:1, with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars. Most of the ground storey windows are three-light. A notable feature is the 18th century portico, which has plain columns and a cornice. The roof is tiled and includes a central chimney stack with three grouped octagonal shafts on a square base.
