Description
The Church of St George is a parish church located in Shimpling, approached by an avenue of limes from Rectory Lane. It dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and is constructed of flint with stone dressings. The west tower features diagonal buttresses and a castellated parapet. The south aisle also has a castellated parapet, and a gabled porch projects from the west end. Inside, the 14th to 15th century font has a pillared shaft and an octagonal bowl adorned with tracery and shields. The south door to the chancel displays a frieze of dog tooth ornamentation on the inside, and there are fragments of old glass, likely remnants of an earlier church from the 12th century. The church is noted for its architectural and historical significance.
