Description

Uplands House is a house dating from around 1830, with extensions added in the late 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with the front of the building tuck-pointed. The roof is slate with gabled ends, and brick gable stacks rise from the roof. The house was originally planned with a 2-room front range and a central entrance hall. Later in the 19th century, a shallow addition was built to the left, and a wing to the right, behind which is an outbuilding, likely originally stables, now incorporated into the house.

The symmetrical, 3-bay south-west front has rubbed brick flat arches above the windows and stone cills. The windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes, with a narrower 12-pane sash on the centre of the first floor and smaller 8 and 6-pane sashes on the second floor. The central doorway has a reeded doorcase, a rectangular overlight with radiating glazing bars, a projecting canopy supported by large, shaped brackets, fielded panel reveals, and a six-panel fielded door.

At the rear, there is a shallow 2-storey extension on the right with a lean-to roof, and a gable-ended wing on the left with a large 2-storey canted bay. Behind this wing is a lower range weather-boarded and with a corrugated iron sheet roof; this has been converted into living accommodation. The interior has not been inspected.
