Description

Newton Hall is a timber-framed and plastered house, largely dating to the 17th and 18th or early 19th century, but incorporating a 16th-century timber-frame. The house has cross wings at the east and west ends of the north front, and another wing extends to the south from the west end. The south front features a jettied upper storey with a five-window range of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars. A 19th-century porch constructed of gault brick, featuring an arched doorway and a castellated parapet, projects from the front. The north front displays a four-window range (1:2:1) of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars and Gothic arched heads, dating to the early 19th century. The main block of the house was widened in the 19th century between the cross wings. The roofs are tiled; the south wing features a 17th-century chimney stack with two diagonally set shafts. The main block has old tiles and a steeply pitched roof. The interior retains good 19th-century features.
