Description
Saxlingham House, formerly known as Nethergate End, is a house dating from the early 16th century, with a 17th-century two-bay addition to the south of the stack. The building features a rendered timber frame and a thatched roof. It has two storeys with an attic, and the windows are 20th-century metal casements with glazing bars. The house includes a gabled porch, three dormers, and later extensions to the side and rear. There is one off-centre axial stack and a later gable-end stack. The frame is constructed of heavy scantling with wide chamfers. There are opposing former doorways at the northern end, with arched jambs on the western door. The first floor was formerly open to a queen post roof, and one surviving truss features a massive arch-braced tie and braces from the queen posts to the collar.
