Description
The Church of St Mary is a parish church located in Carleton Forehoe, dating from the 15th century, with a west tower added in 1713, as indicated by a datestone on the north side. The church is constructed of flint with stone and brick dressings on the tower, topped with leaded roofs. It features a west tower, an aisleless nave with a south porch, and a chancel. The west tower consists of three stages and showcases interesting wooden tracery in its semi-circular headed bell openings, along with obelisk finials and a parapet. The nave has four large three-light windows with restored Perpendicular tracery, while the chancel contains four original two-light Perpendicular windows and a heavily restored four-light east window. Inside, there is a moulded chancel arch and fine piscinae in both the nave and chancel, each with cusped heads and hood-moulds. The church also features 18th-century roofs and Victorian furnishings, including a western gallery and oil lamp lighting.
