Description
The Round House is a former toll house dating from the late 18th century, with a 20th-century rear extension. It is built of colourwashed brick and has a pantiled roof. The building has an octagonal plan, featuring two opposing bays that are wider than the other six. The bay elevations alternate between single wide enclosing arches and rectangular recesses with oval ones above. A three-course platband runs around the structure. The windows are from the 20th century. A central chimney has a cluster of four circular flues. There is a blocked front door that leads into a semi-circular lobby, which was originally a stairwell. The building is marked as a toll house on the 1840 tithe map.
