Description

The Old House is an 18th-century house located on Norwich Road in Stoke Holy Cross. It features a timber frame with whitewashed brick infill and a thatched roof, set upon a brick and flint plinth. The south front was originally symmetrical and consists of one storey with a central two-storey gabled bay. This bay is lit by a 3-light casement window on the ground floor and a two-light Y window above, which is arched. There is a 3-light casement window from the 18th century on each side of the gabled bay, with the left window situated behind a 20th-century greenhouse. A 20th-century door provides access from the greenhouse into the house. The gabled roof is topped with two gault brick ridge stacks. The north front has outshuts of various later dates. Inside, the house features widely spaced studs, sunk quadrant bridging beams, and rebuilt fireplaces.
