Description
Stocks Hill Cottage and Smugglers Cottage, originally a single dwelling, dates to the 17th century, with extensions and repairs made later. The construction is rendered timber-frame, with brick ends and a brick and flint plinth. A lobby entrance is present, with an axial stack positioned off-centre. The cottage is two storeys high, featuring a jettied first floor. The brick ends and hipped roof are from the 18th or 19th century and appear contemporary. Window openings are scattered, with some late 20th-century frames and some surviving 19th-century casements featuring horizontal glazing bars. An original newel stair is located beside the stack. Inside, a hollow chamfered spine beam is supported at one end by a 17th-century turned baluster shaft.
