Description

33-39 Damgate Street is a range of four terraced houses with origins in the 18th century, reworked in the 19th century and altered in the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of brick with flint and feature pantiled roofs on numbers 37 and 39, while numbers 33 and 35 have black glazed pantiles. The terrace is two storeys high, with numbers 33 and 35 sharing a continuous gabled roof, and numbers 37 and 39 having a similar roof with a different pitch.

Number 33 has two bays, with a central door featuring glazed top panels. To the right is a sash window with glazing bars and a segmental skewback arch, while to the left is a 20th-century casement. The first floor is lit by two three-light late 18th-century casements. There is an internal gable-end stack to the north.

Number 35 has a panelled half-glazed door to the left and a sash window to the right. The first floor has one late 18th-century three-light casement. There is an internal gable-end stack to the south.

Number 37 features a central 19th-century panelled door flanked by one casement on each side. The first floor has a central early 19th-century three-light casement, with an internal gable-end stack to the north on a high rendered plinth.

Number 39 has a 20th-century half-glazed door to the left, with a three-light renewed late 18th-century casement immediately to the right under a segmental head. The ground floor is finished in random flintwork, and there are two late 19th-century first-floor casements under segmental heads, along with a small casement to the left of these. There is an internal gable-end stack to the south, which has been rebuilt.
