Description
26 and 28 Damgate Street are two houses, originally three, dating from the early 19th century, with a brick exterior that may cover an older structure. The roof is made of black glazed pantiles. No. 28 features a late 19th-century panelled door, while No. 26 has a late 20th-century door. There is evidence of a second, blocked door at No. 28. The original layout of No. 28 was as a symmetrical three-bay house with twin central doors, likely used for dual occupation. Each door is flanked by a three-light casement window with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. A similar window, which has been renewed, is found to the right of the elevation. Above the central door of No. 28 is a blind window, with a 20th-century casement window to the left and a three-light casement to the right. There is also a renewed casement window to the right of No. 26. The houses have a dentil eaves cornice beneath the gabled roof. No. 28 previously had internal gable-end stacks on the north and south sides, with the northern stack now serving as a shared ridge stack with No. 26.
