Description
Old Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that is now without a farm, located on Surlingham Lane in Rockland St. Mary. The building is constructed of brick and features a thatched roof, designed in an L shape with two storeys and attics in two gabled ranges. The east side has a cross wing gable on the left, which includes a 20th-century door. This gable is illuminated by four-light casements on both the ground and first floors, as well as a two-light attic window. The range to the right of the gable shows some late 19th-century brickwork and contains one 20th-century door and three casements, one of which is located on the first floor. All windows are late 20th-century but retain 17th-century hood moulds on labels. The building features a 17th-century ridge stack with flues arranged in zig-zag brickwork. The south return of the cross wing also has 20th-century casements beneath 17th-century hood moulds. The rear details are similar, with one dormer in each roof slope. A late 20th-century single-storey gabled extension is attached to the cross wing, and the roof is pantiled.
