Description

Manor Farmhouse is an early 17th century farmhouse with a 19th century rear outshut addition. It is constructed of brick with some flint and has a pantiled roof. Originally built with a lobby entrance plan, the east front has two storeys and a dormer attic arranged in five irregular bays. The fenestration includes three 5-light cross casements on each floor, alternating with smaller 2-light casements. The central 5-light windows are original 17th century examples with ovolo-moulded mullions and brick hood moulds. A similar window to the upper left of the elevation is a replacement within the original opening. A small 2-light window above a 20th century plank door in the second bay from the right is also original 17th century, with a brick hood. A similar window is located in the second bay from the left. The remaining windows are replacements. The gabled roof features a single gabled dormer with a moulded bressummer. The north and south gable heads have parapets resting on kneelers. A ridge stack is located to the left of centre, featuring a moulded rectangular plinth and triple flues. A smaller internal gable-end stack to the north was rebuilt in 1989. The north gable head includes splayed attic lights. The detailing of the 19th century rear outshut is of 20th century design. Internally, the centre east room has a sunk-quadrant moulded bridging beam with bar stops, and roll-moulded joists. A room to the south also features a similar bridging beam and a north wall plate. A brick fireplace with two orders of sunk-quadrant mouldings and a shallow segmental arch is present. Sunk-quadrant bridging beams are repeated to the first floor. The roof structure consists of two tiers of butt purlins, canted collars, and one arched windbrace to each bay, with the purlins on the south slope staggered.
