Description
Loddon War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921, with additions for the Second World War. It is made of grey granite and is located in the churchyard of the Church of Holy Trinity, Church Plain, Loddon, Norfolk. The memorial is prominently positioned by the western churchyard railings, overlooking the market place. It features a rough-hewn wheel head cross with a Sword of Sacrifice in relief on the front, resting on a curved plinth. This plinth stands on a three-tiered granite base, with a stone base below. A roundel near the bottom of the shaft and the plinth display inscriptions in leaded lettering. The names of those who served in the Second World War are inscribed on an additional stone set into the granite steps of the base. The main inscription reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 (NAMES) 1939 – 1945 (NAMES) LEST WE FORGET."
