Description
Shimpling Place is a large 16th-century timber-framed house that has undergone alterations in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It features gabled cross wings at both the east and west ends, with the east wing displaying a stepped gable. The larger west wing also has a stepped gable, along with octagonal angle shafts and pinnacles. The central range showcases exposed timber-framing with close-studding, while the ground floor is faced in 19th-century red brick. The east and west wings are rendered. The house has a steep tiled roof and black glazed pantile roofs. Although some original mullion windows remain, the majority have been replaced with 19th and 20th-century sash and casement windows. The building stands two storeys high with attics and features a brick chimney stack at the east end of the central range. Inside, there are stopped and chamfered ceiling beams.
