Description
Thelveton Hall is a large brick house dating from around 1592, featuring rendered moulded brick dressings and tiled roofs. It is designed in an E-shape with two storeys and attics, comprising five bays arranged as 1:2:1:2:1. The house has end gabled wings and a central three-storey porch with stepped gables, octagonal corner shafts, and moulded brick finials. The windows are three and five-light rendered mullion/transom types with moulded pediments, and there is a round arched doorway also topped with a pediment. A moulded string course runs along the exterior. At the rear, there are two gables and two large external brick chimney stacks, each featuring two octagonal shafts with moulded bases. A late 18th-century wing is located at the rear on the southeast corner, while late 19th-century two-storey wings were added to the east and west ends in a matching style.
Inside, the hall has been significantly altered in the late 19th century but retains fragments of 16th and 17th-century panelling, a much-altered staircase in the southwest, and an early 18th-century carved wood chimney-piece in the west room on the first floor. There is also a long gallery on the first floor.
