Description

Grange Farmhouse, originally known as Hill Farmhouse, is a 16th-century house located on the north side of Bressingahm High Road. The building features a plastered timber-frame construction, steep roofs covered with plain tiles and black glazed pantiles, and gabled cross wings at each end. At the rear, the north end of the west wing is made of brick and has a stepped gable with a finial, along with a prominent chimney stack that has twin round moulded brick shafts. This section also includes two small round attic windows and a three-light stone mullion window on both the ground and first floors. There is an adjoining gabled brick wing that projects out, featuring a brick finial and a stone attic window with four round-headed lights. The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic, and the front façade is arranged in a 1:3:1 bay pattern, with gabled ends. The windows include modern and 19th-century casements, and there is a fielded panel door. The central east-west range has a chimney located east of the centre, with diamond-shaped brick shafts. Inside, there is a room with moulded ceiling beams and a fireplace featuring a moulded stone Tudor arch. In the attic of the west wing, there is a small stone chamfered Tudor arch fireplace. The roof of the west wing is supported by collar beams and wind braces extending from the principal rafters to the purlins.
