Description
Bixley Mill is a tower corn windmill, now functioning as a water tower. It was originally built in 1838 with 11 storeys but was reduced to 7 storeys in 1865. Later, in the late 20th century, it was further reduced to 5 storeys, with the top two storeys being rebuilt. The structure is made of brick and features a plain tile roof. It has a circular tapering plan with a batter at the top. The main entrance is located on the south side, featuring a segmental head above a 20th-century door, which is situated below a glazed loading doorway. There is also a small door on the west side in a reduced opening, marked by a plaque that reads "C.C. 1838" (Charles Clare). The windows are centre hung and placed at intervals around the building. Corbelling can be seen below the conical roof, and there is no machinery present.
