Description

Numbers 1-15, including 1-2 Kenyon Row with attached walling, is a row of houses and bungalows built between 1955 and 1957 in two phases. The development was designed by Tayler and Green. The buildings are constructed of brick in five colours—yellow-grey, red, black, and pink with a colourwash—and have red pantile roofs. The row begins at the south end with 1 and 2 Kenyon Row, two single-storey houses, with the second one stepped back and connected by a short crinkle-crankle wall to Forge Grove. The main part of the terrace comprises two-storey houses that step up the hill in pairs, with a rising roofline that maintains a consistent frontage. Each pair of houses features decorative pairs of arches above the porch and adjacent ground floor window; these arches are alternately segmental and pointed. The porches have lattice-work supports with differing patterns. The terrace then steps back, completing the row with single-storey bungalows. These bungalows include painted timber trellis-work across the walls, continuing the horizontal glazing line and window cill lines. Decorative bargeboards are present on gable ends, and the gable ends of both houses and bungalows are decorated; one bears the date 1955. Although the ground floor plans are of note, the interiors lack significant features of group value.
