Description

Hill House is a house dating from the early 17th century, with remodelling from the 18th century. It is timber framed, rendered, and colourwashed, topped with a steeply pitched black glazed pantile roof. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring an L-shaped plan. The south facade is symmetrical with three bays, containing 3-light casements with glazing bars. There is a central doorway with a rusticated wooden surround and a lead-covered canopy, leading to a four-panelled half-glazed entrance door. The building has a wooden eaves cornice and parapet gables with internal chimney stacks. It includes two gabled roof dormers, each with 2-light casements with glazing bars, and a blocked attic window in the east gable.

To the north is a lower 1½ storey wing that has 20th century casements and a flat-roofed dormer on the west side. The north gable features an internal gable stack and a lean-to. There is also a catslide extension on the north side of the main range, which has 20th century casements and two flat-roofed dormers. Inside, the timber frame is largely intact, with arch-braced tie beams at the first floor level. The east gable contains a 3-light first floor casement window with hollow chamfered wooden mullions. The roof features butt-purlins with chamfered collars to the principals, partly re-worked at the west end. The north wing has some blocked windows with diamond mullions.
