Description
The former Primitive Methodist Chapel, designed by architect Edward Boardman, is now being converted into offices as of 1984. This building features grey brick with moulded brick and stone details and has a slate roof, showcasing a classical style. The front has three bays, with the center bay slightly set forward. Corinthian-capital pilasters support a central pediment and entablature. The entrance consists of panelled double doors with a segmental over-light in a moulded architrave, topped by a small hood and set within a recessed round-headed arch that has dentilled imposts and a large wheel window. The left and right bays have rusticated brickwork on the ground floor, featuring small round-headed windows linked by a continuous moulded impost. A moulded brick stringcourse runs at the first-floor sill level, above which are tall, narrow round-headed windows. The side elevations consist of five bays in a similar style, with slightly projecting end bays and a continuous modillion cornice. The interior has been stripped of its fittings, and the gallery has been removed.
