Description

TG 2308 NW PRINCES STREET (south side) 16/656 26.2.54. No. 9 GV II Former use unknown, now offices with C15 undercroft. offices:- Early C19. Red brick, plinth and pantile roof. Corner site. 3 storeys, 2 bays. The right-hand bay is recessed and contains a panelled door with C20 glazing. Detached Doric columns and flanking pilasters supporting frieze. Semi- elliptical fanlight above with Adam tracery and rubbed brick arch. Sash windows with glazing bars, rubbed brick flat arches and moulded timber surrounds. The window above the door has curvilinear glazing bars in the top sash and a rubbed brick semi-circular arch. Rounded corner into Redwell Street. Undercroft:- Brick. 2 bays and 2 end ½-bays terminated by later walls at right-angles to the street line. High, pointed barrel-vault profile with rectangular section cross-ribs. 4 side chambers with an opening above in line with the main space. Original entrance in north-west corner. The building is graded II because of the undercroft, one of an important group within the City Walls.
