Description

This building is a corner property that includes Nos. 2 and 4 Elm Hill, dating from the 17th century with later alterations. The structure features a part-rendered plinth, painted brick on the ground floor, and a first floor that is rusticated, with rendered and rusticated gables. It has a pan-tile roof and stands three storeys tall with a cellar, showcasing a first-floor jetty. The fenestration is irregular, with three gables on each facade.

The 19th-century corner shop front has angled half-glazed double doors flanked by windows with narrow moulded mullions. The ground floor sash windows have large panes, and one has lattice iron railings on the sill. There are two simple doorcases to the right and left, with the door of No. 6 featuring six raised and fielded panels below a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. No. 4 has a 20th-century door.

The first-floor sash windows include glazing bars, with the central window also having a flimsy iron balcony. A paired modillion cornice is located beneath the gables, each adorned with plaster bargeboards and one glazing bar sash window. The Elm Hill facade mirrors this treatment, featuring a pair of part-glazed doors in simple reeded doorcases and a moulded jetty beam. Additionally, No. 4 Princes Street displays two cast iron plaques: H/S.P/1814 and H/S.P/1834.
