Description
No. 7 Princes Street is a Grade II* listed building that was originally used for an unknown purpose and is now used as offices. The structure dates back to the early 19th century and features a red brick exterior with a plinth and a pantile roof. It stands three storeys tall, plus a semi-basement, and has two bays. The right-hand bay includes a door with 20th-century glazing and a semi-circular fanlight adorned with Adam tracery. The entrance is flanked by panelled pilasters with scrolls that support an open pediment. The building has sash windows with glazing bars, rubbed brick flat arches, and moulded timber surrounds, along with a moulded box cornice.
Beneath the building are two undercrofts made of brick, which have pointed barrel-vault profiles running parallel to the street. These undercrofts have an unusual relationship with each other and with the adjoining undercroft beneath No. 9 Redwell Street. The eastern undercroft has been partly damaged by 19th-century walls, while the western undercroft features blocked door openings in the south and west walls, along with a lighting niche. The building is designated as Grade II* due to the significance of the undercrofts, which are part of an important group within the City Walls.
