Description
No. 7 St. Giles Street is a former office building, now a cafe, constructed between 1899 and 1900 by architect G. S. Skipper. It features yellow ochre coloured terra cotta on a granite base and has a plain tile roof. The building stands two storeys high with an attic storey and occupies a corner site. The 20th-century ground floor front conceals parts of the original facade. On the first floor, there are three sash windows with semi-circular arches, separated by octagonal shafts that have stiff leaf capitals and decorated spandrels. Below the Corinthian cornice, there is a blue diamond frieze. The dormer gable includes two sash windows, decorated scrolls, and a segmental pediment. A circular corner turret features mullion and transom windows topped with a dome, while a square end turret has rectangular top lights and a pagoda roof with a finial. This office was originally built for the Norfolk Daily Standard.
