Description
Barn at Hill House Farm is an 1824 barn situated on the south side of Hellesdon Hall Road. Constructed of red brick with a pantiled roof, the barn is six bays long. Originally, it featured two double doors, each flanked by windows with ventilators below. A central door was later cut through one of the blocked openings. The left bay is now partially masked by a later shelter-shed built at a right angle. The barn has a brick eaves cornice, and the tumbled brick gables bear iron numerals indicating the year 1824 at the right end. A catslide roof extends to the rear, covering a cart-shed whose original side walls have been extended and re-roofed. Internally, a flint rubble dividing wall is present at the left end, featuring brick bands, and a timber partition exists to the right, incorporating a wooden platform hopper and pulleywheel. The rear wall includes diaper-pattern ventilators. The roof structure comprises six tie beam collar trusses alternating with pairs of collared rafters and slender wooden ties.
