Description
The Gibraltar Gardens Public House is a building that dates from the late 15th century to the 16th century, with later alterations. It is primarily timber-framed, mostly rendered, but features some exposed framing and knapped flint on the east front. The building has a pantiled roof and four brick ridge chimneys. It stands two storeys tall and has seven first-floor windows on the facade that is at right angles to Heigham Street. The central range includes a 20th-century ribbed and studded door set beneath a 16th-century arch with moulded spandrels. The wooden mullioned and transomed windows include two 16th-century examples on the first floor. To the left, there is a two-window range with a 20th-century lean-to verandah featuring a pantiled roof. The gable-fronted wing to the right has a first-floor jetty and exposed studding in the gable. Inside, the central range contains a 16th-century corridor leading to the first floor, which is a very early example. The gable-fronted wing features a Queen post roof.
