Description
This barn, dating from the early 18th century with minor 20th-century alterations, stands 35 metres east of Bristows Farmhouse. It is constructed of brick, partially rendered in 1983, and has a thatched roof. The barn is five bays long and one and a half storeys high. The west side features a central pair of full-height double doors. Four symmetrically placed pilaster buttresses are present, with slit ventilation lights located between them. To the left of the double doors is a subsidiary door, and a hayloft door is set under the eaves between the two. The gables have a tumbling stand on brick kneelers. The roof is gabled. The east side incorporates a partly rebuilt transept entrance with a catslide thatched roof. The interior features a north end that has been floored, with hay racks below and a full-height brick partition dividing it from the main barn space. The roof structure consists of tie beams supported on wall pieces with straight braces, principals and collars, and two tiers of butt purlins.
