Description
Glaven Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse constructed of flint with brick dressings and a pantile roof. Originally a two-cell plan, it features end internal stacks and two storeys with an attic, plus a one-bay rear wing. A rendered plinth runs along the base of the building. The central porch was rebuilt in the 20th century, rendered with a pantile roof, boarded gable with bargeboards, and a small, glazed light on its return. A panelled door is set within the porch. The ground floor has two four-light casements set under segmental heads. Two three-light casements are on the first floor. Small, blocked openings are present on both the ground and first floors of the left chimney bay. A raking dormer is located on the right. A two-storey bay, rendered and with a hipped roof, has been added to the right, featuring three-light casements, the ground floor window having a segmental head, and a doorway to the left. The left gable is rendered and there is a blocked window opening to the rear, behind the left bay.
Inside, a central staircase has been inserted. Large fireplaces are present in the left and right cells. The right-hand cell displays large principal beams with decorative stops, along with 18th-century panelled wainscot. The left cell features three tie beams with run-out stops, a basket arch to the fireplace with a moulded chamfer and decorative steps, and run-out stops on the first floor. The roof is a butt purlin design.
