Description
The former chapel, located approximately 80 meters north-east of Mill Farmhouse, dates from around 1830 and was converted into a barn around 1900. The building features a shuttered clay on a flint plinth course and has a pantiled roof. It is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan. The original entrance on the west wall has been altered to include corrugated iron doors, with an opening cut through to the eaves line above, which is now blocked with weatherboarding.
The north and south sides each have two 8/8 top- and bottom-hung split casement windows, which are fitted with additional external cross bars. There is one similar window on the east side that has 4/4 glazing bars. The eaves project slightly, with traces of soffit plaster remaining in the south-west corner. The roof is hipped.
Inside, the walls are plastered and limewashed, and the windows have splayed internal reveals. The roof structure consists of three king post trusses, with the central truss featuring a raised tie beam and one tier of butt purlins. This building is notable as a surviving example of a temporary chapel and is constructed from rare building materials. Mill Farmhouse is not included in the listing.
