Description

The Church of St Mary is a parish church built from flint with brick dressings and a variegated green and blue slated roof. It features a Perpendicular style west tower, nave, and north transept, with a south porch and chancel that were restored between 1863 and 1864, likely by architect Frederick Preedey of Worcester, who also designed the stained glass.

The west tower consists of four stages with buttresses and three two-light belfry windows, while the west window is made of 18th-century honeycomb brick and has chequer work battlements. The nave has three three-light Perpendicular windows on the south side and two three-light windows on the north side. The north window of the transept is also three-light. The chancel features one two-light Perpendicular window on the south, one 19th-century two-light window, and an east window from around 1400 that is three-light Decorated with lozenges and quatrefoils.

The south porch, designed by Preedey, includes an Annunciation group in a niche in the gable. There is a south door and a blocked north door of the nave dating to around 1300. A 15th-century font is present, and the nave roof and chancel details are from the 1863-64 restoration, with a low chancel arch. The church also features a Te Deum reredos and arched braced roofs in the nave and chancel. High Victorian stained glass includes the east window from 1863 by William Warrington, along with four chancel windows, one nave window, and one tower west window designed by Preedey.
