Description
23 Market Place is an early 19th-century building constructed of red brick. It features a hipped pantile roof with overhanging eaves supported by paired brackets. The building stands three storeys tall and is part of an island site, displaying a four-window front with one window splayed at the corners and two window returns. The windows are sashes with glazing bars and flat brick arches, with blind corners. The ground floor has a 20th-century ashlar bank front characterized by wide pilasters, a modillion cornice, and a round-headed doorway located on the southeast corner. A central brick chimney stack with panelled sides is also present. At the rear, there is a wing from the early to mid-19th century, also made of red brick, with a pantile roof featuring a hipped end. This wing is two storeys high and has five windows that are sashes with glazing bars and flat brick arches. The ground floor on the left side has a modern glazed door with a hood.
