Description
No. 21-23 is a pair of cottages, originally divided into three, dating from the early to mid 18th century. They are constructed of red brick and topped with a red pantiled roof.
No. 21 features one ground floor and two first floor two-light cast iron casement windows with glazing bars, all set under cambered rubbed brick arches. There is a single-storey gable range at right angles with a boarded door.
No. 22 has one ground floor single light window, one two-light casement, and two first floor two-light casements, all under rubbed brick arches. It also has a boarded door, a flint floor platband, and a dog-tooth eaves cornice, which are unique to this cottage. Both cottages have an off-centre stack and a west end stack, with brick parapets that feature tumbling to the gables.
There is a two-storey extension at the northwest, which includes one two-light and one single light cast iron casement window with glazing bars under rubbed brick arches. The rear and east gable show ground floor flint with brick dressings and a brick first floor.
Inside, No. 21 has a ground floor spine beam and a first floor cross beam, while No. 22 features ground floor chamfered and stopped spine and cross beams. The roof structure includes butt purlins and collars. These details indicate that the buildings were once part of the Leicester Estate Cottage.
