Description

Grove House is a building dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th and late 19th centuries. It is constructed from flint and chert, with brick dressings, and features a black-glazed pantile roof with coped gable ends. The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a west range that includes a cross wing at the eastern end along Tunn Street.

The western part of the building showcases late 19th-century corbelled brick eaves and six late 19th-century moulded mullion and transom windows set within rendered architraves. The left side features a late 19th-century splayed bay, while the right side has a late 19th-century porch with a large open pediment and a semi-circular blind fanlight that contains a wooden pediment above panelled double doors. Inside the porch, there is a well-crafted fluted pilastered doorway leading to a large fielded panel door.

The house also has three notable late 17th to 18th-century pedimented dormers, each with two-light casements that have leaded panes. A large brick chimney stack is located at the west end, featuring three octagonal shafts with moulded bases. Additionally, there are two downpipes with rainwater heads dated "IL 1724". The right (eastern) cross wing projects at the gable end and contains two windows and one attic window, all featuring similar late 19th-century moulded mullion and transom casements. The east side facing Tunn Street has various irregularly arranged casements.
