Description
Little Snoring War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, located in the churchyard south of the Grade I-listed Church of St Andrew and the Detached Tower.
The memorial features a small limestone cross fleurée that rises from a four-sided, tapering plinth with a cavetto cornice, which sits on a two-stepped, moulded base. The plinth displays inscriptions and names in incised lettering that is painted black.
The main inscription is on the east face, stating, "IN/ GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919." A secondary inscription on the west face reads, "THEY WERE A WALL/ UNTO US BOTH/ BY NIGHT AND DAY." The names of the fallen are recorded on the south face, detailing their regiment, how they died, the date, and where they are buried.
