Description

This is a row of four early 18th-century brick-fronted buildings, numbers 38 to 42, on High Street in Little Walsingham. The structure likely incorporates a 17th-century or earlier building underneath. The roof is covered with pantiles, featuring gabled ends, with some sections having brick dentil eaves. The building is two storeys high with a basement. It has seven windows in total. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although the ground floor of number 42 has thicker glazing bars. Number 40 has a two-light sash window, one light with thicker glazing bars. The first floor of number 42 has three two-light wood mullion/transom casements with ovolo moulding and leaded panes. Number 38 has a small shop dating from the early 20th century. Number 40 features a glazed and panelled door, and number 42 has a late 19th-century three-light shop window with a cornice, along with a panelled door with six panes and thick glazing bars. A stone dripmould, likely originally from the Abbey, is incorporated into the rear wall of number 40. The building is said to have vaulted brick cellars.
