Description

The Parish Church of St Andrew is a Grade II* listed building, dating from the 14th century and later, with significant restoration by William Butterfield in 1864. The church features a west tower, nave, south porch, north and south aisles, and a chancel. It is constructed from Quaternary and Quarry Flint, along with Lincolnshire Limestone, and has lead-covered roofs over the nave and aisles, while the chancel has a steeply pitched plain-tiled roof. The flintwork on the south side is partly plastered over. The church has Perpendicular windows in the aisles, clerestory, and east wall of the chancel. The square west tower is supported by diagonal buttresses and features flint flushwork panels in its lower stage. Above the west doorway is a two-light window with geometric tracery, and there are four sound-openings with cusped Y-tracery. A staircase turret is located on the north side of the tower, and a sanctus bell turret is at the east end of the nave. There is a modern boiler house to the south of the south porch.

Inside, the church has 14th-century arcades with octagonal piers and a 14th-century piscina in the south aisle that features a painted cross. The circular font, dating from the 13th century, is decorated with fleur-de-lis motifs. The chancel's south side includes early 14th-century sedilia and piscina. Some 19th-century stained glass by Bryans is present, along with the Royal Arms.
