Description
The Old Rectory, located approximately 50 meters north of the Church of St. Lawrence, is a house that was formerly a rectory built in 1810 for the Reverend William Fawssett. It is constructed of gault brick and has a hipped roof covered with renewed dark pantiles. The building has a double-depth layout with three bays and two storeys.
The main facade, which faces south, is symmetrical, with the central bay projecting forward and featuring a pediment above. The left side has quoins made of larger bricks. There is a plat band and a string course at the ground floor level, along with pilaster strips at the corners that frame recessed full-height panels. The central doorway has a 20th-century casing and a pediment designed in an 18th-century style, with a double-leaved part-glazed door that includes margin lights. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, set under flat arches, and those on the ground floor are low and positioned within recessed panels that have segmental heads.
At the time of the survey, the house was undergoing renovation. It is included in the listing for its group value.
