Description
Nos. 37 and 38 on Norfolk Street in King's Lynn are a shop building dating from the late 16th century, although it has been significantly altered over time. The structure is timber-framed and brick, topped with a pantile roof. It has two storeys, featuring two late 19th-century and 20th-century plate glass shopfronts on the ground floor. The first floor is rendered, colourwashed, and scored to resemble ashlar, with two late 19th-century sash windows above. These windows have central glazing bars designed as thin columns with roll-moulded bases. The roof is gabled and there are no chimney stacks. At the rear, there is a cross wing that dates from the 17th or 18th century, which has also been much altered. Inside, one principal stud is visible in the front range, with others also apparent. The roof has not been inspected but is reported to have been reconstructed in the mid-20th century when dormers were removed.
