Description

Westgate House is a building that now serves as offices, originally constructed in the early 18th century with a facade added in the early 19th century. It features a brown brick exterior with red brick returns and a slate roof, while the rear wing has a plain tiled roof. The facade is asymmetrical and two stories high.

The central entrance consists of a panelled door set within panelled reveals and topped by a four-vaned fanlight. This door is framed by engaged fluted Tuscan columns that support an open pediment. On either side of the door, there is a wide sash window with glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. To the far left, there is a pedestrian doorway beneath a blind window on the first floor. The remainder of the first floor has four horned sash windows.

A modillion timber eaves cornice runs beneath the gabled roof, which has two distinct pitches, with the southern pitch being higher. There is a ridge stack at the division of the pitches, an internal stack on the south gable end, and an added external stack on the north gable. The original gable line of the early 18th-century house is still visible, indicating it was likely a one-story structure with a dormer attic. At the rear, on the south side, there is a two-story block with a plain tiled roof, featuring sash windows with glazing bars and a stack on the rear roof slope.
