Description
The White House is a house dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick, flint, and some carstone, topped with a roof of black glazed pantiles. The building has a double pile plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, featuring seven irregular bays.
To the left of the centre, there is a portico porch made of rendered and colourwashed brick, supported by square corner pilasters and a pair of Tuscan columns. This porch features an architrave with an ovolo acanthus plaster frieze and has a leaded roof. The windows are sashes from various periods, with two to the right of the porch from the 18th century, while the rest date from the 19th or 20th centuries. Above the porch, a semi-circular window illuminates the stairwell.
The house has a brick modillion eaves cornice and a gabled roof that is hipped to the north. There are two pedimented dormers with casements. A ridge stack is positioned to the left of centre, and there is an internal gable stack to the right. The south gable head features tumbling and a raised parapet.
