Description
The barn at College Farm is an aisled barn dating from the early 16th century. It is timber framed with later brick infill, weatherboarded on the south side, and has a corrugated iron roof. The barn is one storey high with a swept roof and features opposing off-set carriage doors. The south side has four 20th-century windows. The roof is hipped to the east and west and has been recovered in the 20th century.
Inside, the barn consists of five bays. The aisle posts are set on brick piers and are supported by arched braces connecting to the tie beams and wall plates. There are struts to the aisle walls, which also have arched braces to the wall posts. The roof structure includes queen posts to collars, through purlins, and diminished principals, along with arched windbracing to the purlins. The interior also shows blocked diamond ventilation panels within the brick skin.
