Description
29 Downham Road is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in the early 18th century. It is constructed of brick and has slate roofs, with the facade being colour-washed. The building has two storeys and an attic, arranged in three bays. The central entrance features a 19th-century Gothic door set behind a porch that was added in 1984. The windows are late 18th-century sashes with glazing bars, positioned beneath skewback arches, and the lower windows are set in projecting surrounds. There is a string course at the first floor level, and the upper facade includes 20th-century brickwork. The gabled roof has three 20th-century gabled dormers, and both the north and south gables are shaped, with central stacks; the southern stack is external. The north gable features a pediment and two attic windows, one of which is blocked. At the rear, there is a later 18th-century two-storey wing that includes a full-height gabled stair turret.
