Description
The monument of William Webb is a headstone located 50 metres from the Church of St Mary in the churchyard of Old Hunstanton. It was erected in 1784 and is made of sandstone. The headstone features a bas-relief of putti with wings. The inscription reads: "In memory of William Webb, Late of the 15 Light Dragoons who was Shot from his horse by a party of smugglers on 26 September 1784, Aged 26 years. I am not dead, but Sleepeth here and when the trumpet sound I will appear. Four balls through me pearced there way. Hard it was I had no time to pray." This monument is included for its social historical interest.
