Description

Nos. 102 and 103B on High Street is an early 19th-century, 13-bay block of shops and offices. It is built from gault brick with rendered details and features a plain tiled roof, although No. 102 has been replaced with slate. The building stands two storeys high with a dormer attic. The central 7-bay section projects and is accentuated by rusticated quoins and a central round-arched doorway that leads to No. 103A, which has double-leaf panelled doors with an iron grille over. To the left, there is a rendered 3-bay window facade, while the right side has a 20th-century shopfront. The first floor contains seven sash windows, each set within rendered architraves; the central window features a segmental pediment, while the others have moulded flat hoods. A scrolled modillion timber cornice runs over the central bays, although it has been lost on the right side. The building has three recessed wings, each with 20th-century shopfronts at ground level and two sash windows on the first floor, separated by a blind window. The roof is gabled and hipped at the south end, which includes one hipped dormer on the east and south slopes. There are ridge stacks and additional stacks on the rear roof slope, along with three 20th-century extensions to the rear.
