Description
Hubbard's Farm barn is a farm barn dating from around 1800. It is constructed of rubble flint with red brick and gault brick dressings, topped with a red pantiled roof. The barn features a two-storey, five-bay elevation and has lean-to outshut wings on the north and south sides. Its architectural style is Gothick.
On the ground floor, there are four brick rusticated Gothic arched blank windows, each with a central ventilation slit. The first floor has four semi-circular arched brick honeycomb ventilation windows, also with central slits. The central cart entrance is a two-centred Gothic arch with stepped rustication and is flanked by two boarded cart doors. The outer bays are separated by broad pilaster strip buttresses with brick quoins, and the ends of the barn have brick quoins as well.
A gault brick dentil eaves cornice runs along the top, and the gables are finished with brick parapets. The north and south gables feature contemporary lean-to outshuts made of flint, brick, and pantiles, which extend to the level of the gable springing. Each gable has a gault brick dressed blank Gothic window with a ventilation slit, and the apex includes a rectangular rusticated opening with a lozenge pattern brick honeycomb ventilation feature. The architectural details suggest a connection to the style of the Holkham estate from around 1800.
