Description
Nos 17 to 23 on London Road are mid-19th century buildings constructed from carstone with buff brick dressings and slate roofs. No 17, located at the western end, is two stories tall with two first-floor windows and a blank central panel. The ground floor features two sash windows and a central entrance with a six-panel door, a divided fanlight, and a wooden case with pilasters.
Nos 19, 21, and 23 present a balanced composition with seven sash windows on the first floor, all featuring glazing bars. Above the five central windows, there is a low parapet with a stone coping. The central entrance is located at No 21, while the entrances at Nos 19 and 23 are flanked by full-height pilasters. The buildings have a brick dentil cornice and a stone cill band that extends below the central five windows, along with a plinth. The roofs are hipped and covered with slate. Each entrance features a six-panel door with a divided fanlight and wooden cases with pilasters. The properties have front lawns.
Nos 17 to 25 form a group with the Former National School and Former Howdale Lodge, as well as with No 10 Howdale Road.
